2018 Contest Details and Rules

Eligibility

This is a competition run by GreaterGood.org, a nonprofit organization, and not a prize drawing or sweepstakes.

  • All participants must be a partner of the Girls’ Voices program, led by GreaterGood.org. Contact patriciacogley@greatergood.org for more information about becoming a Girls’ Voices partner.
  • Eligible participants must be between the ages of 13-20 as of October 11th, 2018. Participants are also eligible if they are over 20 years of age and actively pursuing their secondary education or equivalent certificate.
  • Recommended length of all submitted videos must be between 1 to 4 minutes in length.
  • All submissions must be made through Girls’ Voices For Change Website.
  • All work submitted must be the young person’s ideas and imagery. Participants cannot include video clips or music created by others without their written permission. If your media features other people, you must obtain their consent to be included.
  • You may collaborate with a peer, volunteer, educator, or facilitator to edit your film. Ensure that the final edit meets your approval.
  • All work must be submitted online in digital video format.
  • Please submit work with English subtitles.
  • Media must follow Girls’ Voices community guidelines, and must not be violent, show illegal activity, have bad language, or be negatively directed to a group of people.
  • Employees of GreaterGood.org or their families are not eligible to submit media.
  • GreaterGood.org is not responsible for any improperly submitted, technically un-viewable, lost, incomplete, late, or damaged entries.
  • The semi-finalists will be required to complete and agree to all terms of GreaterGood grant application before being eligible for the grant awards.
  • Participants can submit more than one project in multiple categories.

Creative Guidelines

Choose to submit video or photography projects in the following categories.

Courage asks girls to show us their fighting spirit in the face of uncertainty and adversity. The winners  in each category receive grants to help them work with their communities to implement their solutions and further their education. First prize wins $1200 to support girls’ education at her school.

Changemaker asks girls to not only show us a barrier to education in their area, but to also suggest a solution. First prize wins $1000 towards implementing a community project.

Creativity asks girls to show us the world from their eyes, using everything they’ve learned about composing a shot. First prize wins $1000 towards supporting creative programming for girls.

Tips

  • Make sure you allow plenty of time for uploading your project, and time to fill out the forms completely before the project deadlines, October 5th, 11:59 PM PST and October 18th, 11:59 PM PST.  Extensions granted upon request.
  • All projects must present your unique point of view.
  • Projects must have been made after October 11, 2017.

GreaterGood.org s a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to support people, pets, and the planet. This is a creative competition and not a sweepstake, random drawing, or other consumer product contest. No purchase is required to enter.

By participating, you agree to all the above terms and conditions, including all Terms and Conditions.

For all submissions, you retain your copyright ownership however, in consideration of the opportunity for you to enter this competition, you irrevocably and worldwide grant to GreaterGood.org, and anyone authorized by GreaterGood.org, any and all non-exclusive rights to your entry as determined by us, including posting it online and showing, exhibiting, or non-exclusively licensing it under any circumstances to anyone, without any payment to you, as well as the right to use your organization’s name, image and likeness to promote GreaterGood.org’s programs. You cannot later withdraw your video or this grant of rights once you submit it. However, nothing in this Agreement obligates the GreaterGood.org to make any use of your submission, and we reserve the right to take down your submission from the Girls Voices for Change website, or to elect to not exhibit or promote your submission, or you, even if you are a finalist or winner. This competition shall be void where prohibited by law, and GreaterGood.org reserves the right to alter these Terms and Conditions at any time.

Your odds of being a finalist or a winner are entirely dependent on your adherence to the Rules and the Judges’ determination of the artistic, technical quality, and relevance of your work. This is not a sweepstakes where your odds of winning are determined solely by the overall number of entrants. This is an artistic and grant submission opportunity, with the results determined by artistic and social impact appraisal of your submission as described in these Rules. By participating in this Initiative, you waive any right to challenge the results or the process described herein, you agree to release and hold harmless GreaterGood.org and its directors, officers, employees, agents, and licensees, and agree to abide by all decisions of GreaterGood.org.

These Rules constitute the entire agreement between you and GreaterGood.org regarding your participation, and supersede any other written or oral communications you may have with anyone, including any phone calls to our staff. This participation agreement shall be governed by the laws of the state of Arizona.  

Judging and Prizes

Judging Process

Media will be initially judged by Girls’ Voices staff and select volunteers who will select finalists. Judges and the audience will select winners among finalists. All judging shall be without regard to gender, age, citizenship or race. All judges’ decisions are final.

Judging Criteria

Judges will rate media in all categories using the Competition Criteria which may also include these factors:

  • Authenticity of voice
  • Creative Expression
  • Intentional storytelling and imagery
  • Relevance to key themes in girls’ education and girls’ empowerment globally

Social Voting

Voting will open October 22nd at 4 pm PST and will run through November 9th, at 11:59 PM PST. Audiences can vote once a day in each category.
