Inspired Donor Meets the Girl Behind the Camera

UPDATE (8/23/2019): Ishmael is competing in his triathlon on Sunday, August 25th in Tucson at Star Pass Resort. Support his TriZona Super Sprint Triathlon to educate a classroom of girls in Kenya here!
It all began with a dream. Radhiya is a Girls’ Voices scholar who earned the 2018 Judge’s Courage Award for her video “My Dream” in which she shares her aspirations of becoming a pediatrician and in doing so, help change children’s lives.
Her video reached many, but one viewer, in particular, was inspired and touched by Radhiya’s story. Born in Sierra Leone, Ishmael also dreamed of changing and saving lives through medicine. Now, a nurse practitioner living in the United States, Ishmael wants to help students like Radhiya achieve their goals. After hearing about Girls’ Voices, not only did Ishmael pledge to fundraise for the program through fun runs and triathlons, but he also decided he wanted to meet Radhiya in person.
Not many donors get the opportunity to see firsthand how their donations are utilized, and even fewer donors get to meet the benefactors whose lives they are changing. Ishmael knew this was a unique opportunity and admitted the experience was one of the most rewarding of his life.
“I deeply related to her values to support her family, community, and pursue medicine … I feel like she is my sister,” Ishmael said after meeting her.
Ishmael is one of the many donors across the country finding creative ways to raise money and keeps girls like Radhiya in school. You can become one too!
Whether you want to run a marathon, hold a bake sale, or host a danceathon, your donations are greatly appreciated and make a difference in these girls’ lives.
